MommyCon Memphis, familiar but what a difference in energy! The layout of this event worked perfectly to keep the momentum going throughout the day.  The Sweetness and I decided to make it a quick trip by flying into Memphis Saturday morning and flying out Sunday morning. (on standby) Basically, we cut it close this time but it was an amazing event! I just love how welcoming the city of Memphis was. From our hotel staff to the attendees at MommyCon, we felt completely at ease.

So, for this MommyCon event my seminar was titled “So, You are a Stay at Home Parent. Now What?” Let me tell you, it was amazing to be among other parents like myself. Parents who feel like they are trying to get it together every day. We talked the real deal with motherhood and how we put way too much pressure on ourselves to take care of everything.

Seriously, think about it. When was the last time you focused on just your kids? I mean really focused on them, without constantly thinking about all the other responsibilities you have at home. What happens if you all let it fall apart?

Nothing.

Nothing happens if you take a break, did you know that was an option? You just keep going through life with a lot less stress. Now, that doesn’t mean to stop trying. But you deserve a break every now and then. MommyCon is a great place for a break! I actually had time to attend a session from the fabulous Angel Laketa Moore. MommyCon MemphisHer session “Falling in Love with YOU!” changed me. I loved how she talked about representing yourself fully and living in the truth that you are amazing. (I could go on and on but you should just come to her session. She will be at MommyCon Costa Mesa and Atlanta.)

At MommyCon Memphis,  I saw moms laughing and making new friends. I saw exhausted moms with huge smiles on their faces, feeling renewed. It was amazing to see them let go a little and enjoy themselves. There were dads and caregivers there also soaking up all those good vibes! MommyCon isn’t just for moms, it is a place where parenthood in all forms is a celebrated lifestyle. That’s what I want, every day to be just like MommyCon.

Wouldn’t that be nice? Parents just living life, smiling, and no longer judging each other. Stay at home parents who are seeing the sunlight for what seems like years. Caregivers of all types not worried about boring their new friends with tales of their children. MommyCon Memphis

In all seriousness though, being a parent is really tough. I know that I feel so guilty when I do enjoy life. I think about all of the things that I should be doing versus taking care of myself. Then when my husband gets home I feel even worse because I feel like I’ve done nothing all day.

Why is that? Why do we feel guilty for just being human?

Raising kids is so hard, giving yourself to other people and caring about their well being over your own. It is a big job, it can get overwhelming and feel out of control. It’s ok to not do EVERYTHING. Give yourself a little bit of time to breathe.

So what do you do about it?

What happens when #momlife is literally all you do?

How do you battle staying sane in the middle of parental chaos?

Let’s talk about it! Leave a comment on this blog post with what the “SAHM job” means to you. Tell me how you are keeping your cool in the midst of parental chaos. Take a photo on Instagram and #showmeyourreal with what your real life looks like. We are all just trying to make it through, it is a little easier when you know you aren’t alone.

Now The Good Stuff:MommyCon Memphis

I love meeting with brands at MommyCon and seeing how people are living their dreams every day. Memphis did not disappoint! So many wonderful people putting themselves and their dreams on display. One of my favorite parts of MommyCon is watching someone’s face light up when they make a sale. I remember those feelings from LaVie Bebe. You don’t know how much it really means to a family when you shop small. That is their livelihood but more importantly, they are putting their heart out on display. So, shop small ya’ll!

I handle it one second at a time. With a toddler and 11 month old at home in addition to 3 older siblings. I feel like I’m loosing it on a daily! I just breathe, skip the house work and take a nap with them. Yea, then i feel the guilt of having a horrible unorganized house when I’m OCD. The 2 don’t mix well.

    • 5 kiddos! Whoa, what a houseful! You are exactly right, taking it one day at a time is key! <3 Sometimes getting away from the mess/house helps more than you realize!

I love Sincere Elephant! Especially since they’re Huntsville based and I’m in Birmingham, I get to shop small and shop local (ish). It’s tricky being a work at home mom because half the time (even with grandmothers babysitting) I end up not getting any work done because the cuteness is too distracting. Still hoping I can make it to MommyCon Atlanta!

    • Really?! That’s awesome they are local to you, I just love the owners. Being a work at home mom is extremely tough, I hear you! Would love to chat more at MommyCon Atlanta if you make it! <3

Just keep swimming… it’s hard being ANYONE these days…. the challenge of being mommy is a huge reward no matter the difficulties…. it’s so worth every tired sigh or tear….

I don’t think any mommyvon are near me. The closest was maybe nyc….which is8hrs+ away

I enjoyed hearing you speak! You did an awesome job! I am a mom of three girls ages 8, nearly 3, and 5 months. I am slowly losing my mind being a stay at home mom, but its worth it. I really loved mommycon, but man was I ever tired by the end! lol

  6. How do you keep your cool as a Stay at Home Parent? I have to take children breaks during the day. I make sure my littles are playing and safe, then go take a 5-10 minute meditation break alone in my room, then back to the littles for more fun! After bed time, I take some time to do something for me,

What MommyCon city is closest to you? This year NYC was the closest to me. I loved it but didn’t get a chance to see everything I wanted to. But… there is always next year!!

  7. April Proveaux says:

When I feel the urge to scream at my almost 2 year old, instead I’ve started whispering. I feel like in a way it gets his attention even more! Mommycon memphis was closest to me and I loved it!!

  8. Crystal Wall says:

    Can’t wait for Mommycon Atlanta!!!!!!!

  9. A.B. says:

Nap time for the 2 year old and quiet time in her room for the 5 year old are essential for me keeping my sanity! Closest MommyCon is in ATL.

  10. Remi says:

I keep my cool by giving myself time during the day. Whether it’s turning on my shows aka HGTV for a while. I make sure to take a shower when the baby naps every day to give myself a fresh start during the day and clear my mind. Then most of the time as long as we all feel well, we just leave the house as often as possible.

  11. Meagan says:

    Loved going to Memphis!

It’s hard keeping it together when you have 3 year old and a 1 year old having a double tantrum in Whole Foods. I’m not sure how I make it Day to day but I’m sure it’s just #momlife, and we make a way when there is no way at all. I really enjoyed meeting you at MommyCon Memphis!
